On top of the world (or at least a mountain)

So about two months ago we went 4-wheeling or "quatro-wheeling" as our spanish speaker CJ said. It has been one of my goals in life to stand on the top of a mountain. Well I accomplished this goal on Labor Day! We were able to 4-wheel to almost the top then we walked the rest of the way. It was steep and kind of scary since it was so high up. (I could barely breathe)
(me, felipe, CJ, Jason, Trisha and Nick) on our way to the top

(Krys and Felipe) Almost at the top right before we had to get off and hike to the top!

Our view of the top of a mountain!

I think it was an amazing experience and a wonderful view!
Now to complete the rest of my goals in life...

Just Stuff

A couple of things. One, I'm pretty happy with the BYU football which just won their game. Solid game and fun to watch. And then I remembered how annoying BYU fans are. Settle down people and stop honking your horns. Bleh.....

If any of you haven't heard already, both Krys and I are working at Orem Jr. High. I'm the volunteer recruiter guy. I'm starting from scratch. Really, This is new for everyone. So, there is a lot of figuring things out. Part of my job is doing volunteer service outside of the school. So last night I did night security for a festival latinoamericano. It was mostly boring. It also means I've had very little sleep in the last 40 hours.

Also I'm very sorry for not posting very often or putting up many recent pictures as of late. So, um......here's something:

Yes, this is me being awesome.

This is Krys and I at some sort of shindig.

The End of a Chapter

Yes, I have decided to quit the maxx. Last night was my last night as Key Carrier. I will turn in my keys as soon as I get a chance to go up there. I am getting new vacation hours on the 31st of August, SO I am going to be working there until I can use those hours up. I also have two personal days and birthday pay day. If I can pull it off - I may work there on saturday mornings 7-1 to process the registers and cash. But I most likely will not work past October. I'm ready to have a Christmas season off in retail! It is kind of weird, I am kind of addicted to going to the Maxx, and when I don't I feel like I should be there or I feel like I'm ditching out on the store... it's weird but I'll get over it soon!

I'm a real teacher now!

So exciting news from the home front! I have landed a job at Orem Jr High teaching three classes of pre-algebra and 4 classes of being a Title One Aid and one prep period! It is the perfect 1st year teaching job. I only have to teach one subject and I get to sit in the back of other math classrooms and help out! I am so excited. I have not decided if I am going to quit the Maxx or not...

Last Week in Church

So, Krys and I go to church a little early last Sunday for a little bit of business. Everything is going ho-hum like and whatnot. As we are driving through the parking lot we see an old man walking towards the building. He waves. We wave back. However, he looks kind of familiar. This was our following conversation:

Krys: Was that Dallin H. Oaks?
Felipe: It sure looks like him.
Krys: Why would an apostle be here?
Felipe: I don't know, besides he looks too old and his eyebrows are way too frazzly
Krys: Yeah, it can't be him.
Felipe: If it's not him, he's a really good look alike.

Later on I pass by the same man in the hallway. We nod hello as I was busy trying to contact the man I'm going to meet up with. Before Sacrament Meeting starts we see that very same old man sitting next to the Bishop up front. Turns out it was the very same Dallin H. Oaks whom we had been conversing about. Apparently he was attending a baby blessing which I think is a great-granddaughter. And yes, the baby did get blessed. That day was fun.

(1) Bass and (1) Niece

Well, Krys and I doing very well. We've been married exactly one year and twenty days now as Krys now informs me. For Memorial Day we went fishing at Utah Lake with our next door neighbors who may or may not live seven feet from us. It's been forever since I've last been fishing. It turned out to be rather productive. Our family caught one large-mouth bass [15 inches in length], a perch which we let go and a carp that never left the water. I got the chance to mostly gut our fish. A first for me. Then we barbecued it and then we ate it. Yeah, we're awesome.

For other news Krys is a real aunt and I'm a fake uncle. Her sister CJ had her first child. Payton Jo. Krys is totally excited. So am I. So tomorrow we head up and meet the new one. Hooray for new people!

And for a picture of Krys and I for a celebratory anniversary picture. We're cute.

Last Day

Today is my last day of student teaching. It is mostly sad, but this summer will be great. I remember always looking forward to summer as a student, teachers look forward to it even more. Lets be honest - getting paid all summer for doing nothing will be oh so awesome. I have been applying and interviewing for jobs these last few weeks. I hope one of these interviews will get me a job. Wahoo! I will miss the Orem Jr. High Jaguars.

Obligatory photos

So, nearly every time my hair gets long and I decide to cut it, there is always an obligatory mohawk minute and photo shoot.

The Pre-cut hideous part. It's real and terrible at the same time.

For some reason this never gets old.

Next time I shave the top and leave the edge all around. You know, the horseshoe head. Yeah, that's next.

Reason #382

Reason #382 why I love Felipe is that he can cook. On sunday night he made me lasagna soup. I would have taken a picture but it was so amazing we ate all of it. I guess I could have taken a picture of the empty soup pot?? Anyways thats just another reason why Felipe is AMAZING and I love him!

One of my favorites

On the way back home from New Mexico, we stopped to get gas and clean the bugs off the window. I was quite bored so I started taking pictures of Felipe cleaning off the windows.

One of the things that I always tease Felipe about is that when he is concentrating very hard on something he usually sticks his tongue out (as he is in this picture). I also really like the blown up cheeks, this must mean he was concentrating VERY hard trying to get those stuck on bugs off the window.

An update on our lives- we are still in school, hanging out together as much as we can, even though it seems to be only once a week. Our free time is generally taken up by school, work, homework or writing papers. Anyways- we are having fun, enjoying this crazy time of our lives.

Land of Enchantment

So Krys and I went down to New Mexico for the weekend. It ended up being a lot of fun. And also kind of cold. We stayed at Sally and Grant's place. All the kids kept us busy with Wii, trampoline tricks and youtube. I loaded a bunch of wood on a truck, bucked some hay, and almost helped butcher a goat. Krys helped make the sausage and bratwurst. She also entertained the kids and probably a bunch of other stuff. We even went bowling. Other than the driving a lot to get there and back everything was quite relaxing. Go down and visit awhile.

Lily just being awesome

This is Krys and I at Arches National Park on our way back. Not a bad little detour. Just don't drive off the mountain.

Alma fell asleep on the computer desk. I have to say the kid is pretty cool. I especially enjoyed watching the man jump off the window sill or the arm of the couch.

Here we are hanging out in the back yard. Right before we butchered Bratwurst.
