Utah State Fair

In the middle of September, we had the opportunity to go to the Utah State Fair with my friend Carrie, her husband and son. We had never been and wanted to go at least once while we lived here. It was fun but probably not worth the $10 entrance fee per person.

I love making Felipe pose in front of random animals...

and pumpkins.

Jett climbing on a pumpkin with his monkey backpack. Notice sponge bob in the back?

Fil and I.

And here is this... thing...

Fil flapping like the swan. I love his facial expression.

Jett driving the army jeep.

Pants

A student came up to me and said
"Mrs. Sanchez, I left my pants on your laptop."
This is what he meant...

I guess these are origami pants???

Summer Crafts

This summer I found the amazing website called www.pinterest.com

I am addicted! It inspired me to make a few different crafts and recipes. If you are a member add me! (I still don't know how to find people yet...)

I found a cool tutorial for a dry erase "To Do" board. This whole project cost me $3.

I also found an idea to take a design cut out of magical paper, stick it to a canvas, paint around it, and remove the paper. Here is the result.

Now on to finishing the scrap quilt I've been working on. Or to clean my MESSY house... nah! I vote for ignoring my house and quilting!

Foldable Reuseable Enjoyable bag

A few weeks ago my little sister had a bridal shower. I wanted to get her a few things but since we were going to STL I didn't want to pack wrapping paper and a box to wrap the presents in. I decided to make these (they took about 20 minutes each) and wrapped her presents in them. The nice thing is that they fold/ roll up to be small and cute and can fit in your purse! I got the idea here and I think I want to make more!

Fireworks

For the Fourth of July we did a few fireworks. Here are my favorite pictures!

Currently the background of my computer:

Felipe was a great firework starter. I tried to light a few but he was much better than me :)

I'm so excited that firework season is coming to a close. Maybe I will be able to fall asleep before midnight tonight (hopefully my neighbors will stop shooting off a million bazillion fireworks)!

My weekend was mostly boring

Around Christmas our old TV decided to no longer function at an optimum level. Since we've no longer been using that one we decided to get rid of it. Now just throwing it away wasn't going to do.
This is out in the middle of nowhere near Helper, UT.

I'm holding a gun. It's a 410 shotgun. Really, I'm telling the truth.
That's after a few shots.
I'd say a job well done.
On the right where the cable cord plug should be. I shot that. Yeah, that's a sweet aim.
It was Grants idea for me to pose like this. This was well worth the sunburn on my neck.

Math and Art : Proportions

Since one of my great friends is the art teacher at Orem Jr. I wanted to try to incorporate art in one of my lessons. I gave students a square-inch piece of paper and had them "enlarge" it to a 4-, 5- or 6-square inch paper. Here are the results:

A climbing gecko.

A skate-boarding alligator - or - is it a crocodile?

A tiger. It reminds me of the Calvin and Hobbs comic.

A monkey. I like this one. It's my third favorite!

A turtle. My second favorite!

The Jaguar Face Mask that the kids all learn about warm and cool colors with. The Jaguar is our school mascot.

The Jaguar mask. My favorite.

I love being creative at school! if you get bored try it at home! Just make sure you label the inch squares so you know how the final pieces fit together.

Quilt for a friend

So I got crafty and made a baby quilt for my friend who decided to have a baby. Since she helped me so much this year in my classes, I thought it would be much better than just getting her a cookie or something!

I searched up and down like 50 pages of Google Images until I found one that I liked. I think the person who took the picture called it "Sprinkles" although I have no idea who that is! (If you find out let me know and I'll get them credit for the idea.) I changed it a bit to fit what I wanted and I loved the result. I loved it so much I almost didn't give it too her, but I figured I didn't want her new baby to get cold in Arizona... well, it seemed like good logic I think.

Here are some pictures I took along the way:

The front of the quilt, draped over my ironing board.

The back of the quilt, draped over my ironing board as well.

Quilting it at my friend's mom's house. Thanks Stephanie and her mom!

After it is quilted and bound.

Up close of the quilting. I love the square/ rectangle design.

The back quilted. I LOVED the back!

All folded up ready to give to Allie. I had some extra binding material left so I sewed it up and tied it in a bow around.

I am now addicted to quilting. I have two more ideas ready to go and, thanks to my MIL, I have most of the material.

Some things from a trip

A picture from the other side of the sound.

This is Krys in front of a church door in Portland

Yes, I can grow a mustache.

This one was taken from the poopiest deck. EVER!

In an old growth forest near Chehalis.

We've been having a good time. We are super tired from all the walking around. We also have some good stories to tell and other pictures to show and tell. You should ask us about it sometime.

Plants

I am trying to grow some plants in little containers behind my apartment.

Here are my green onions.  They kind of look like green hair right now, but one broke off and I tasted it - not too bad if I may say so myself.

Here is my cilantro. If you look really close there are a few leaves that look like real cilantro. I took the picture on my phone so it may not be the best quality!

I guess basil doesn't want to be grown. I am still rooting for those few little sprouts to pop up. They have been the same size for about 2 1/2 weeks now...

I am going to the store and buying tomatoes, cucumber and zuchini plants today. Hopefully those will turn out more like the top two pictures and not like my basil.

Anyone have any idea how to grow or anything I can do to help my little plants along please let me know!

You would think I would take the time

Sorry for the lack of pictures as I stink at finding anything semi-recent. We all know that Krys is in charge of awesome pictures and making everything look good. I'm just in charge of being weird. I just finished coaching track. Seeing the progress of some of those youngsters has put a smile on my face. They put on quite a show for their last meet and I feel so good that I actually helped them. I could do this again next year.

I finished my first class at UVU. I aced the class. Just to let you know.

Since it is our 3rd anniversary I want to let Krys know how much I love her and how amazing she is. I love how she rolls her eyes when I'm a dork and then says, "You're a dork". I love how she puts away the dishes after I wash them. I love how she wants to grow a garden. I love how she gets excited for chocolates and desserts. I love how she fixes my hair after I cut it. I love how she helps me shop for clothes so that I actually look like a decent person. Krys, I love you.
